It was a very hectic kitchen with few volunteers. Phil was back from holiday but only popped along to say he couldn’t stay as he had been in hospital on the afternoon with a flare up of arthritis in his wrist and they had strapped it up.

Keith’s flat is coming along slowly. The workmen have had problems with the re-wiring and he is not expecting to get back in until September He is staying with friends at the moment.

Lisa has had to turn the house down she was offered last week as it will not be ready for her until October and Liam starts school in September. They are having problems with Liam as when they had to travel by bus to school before the end of term he would get off and run away. The social worker is aware of the problem and has suggested they have a trial run to see if he stays on the bus.

We had a lot of new faces this week. Many had brought alcohol to the kitchen but once I asked them if they wouldn’t mind putting it away until after the kitchen they were happy to oblige. Many of them are on the streets and they are only in their early twenties.

Robert who has not been for many months was with his new girlfriend Sarah. They are camping at the moment. His shoes were coming to bits so Carl very kindly gave him his. I must stop offering Carl and Jims clothing to those in need but it is useful that one is 6ft and the other average build and height!!

Simba came to the kitchen with Jim. He knows him from his time spent in Durham prison and had turned up at the church for the service. He was intoxicated and very hungry. Jim was taking him back to Birtley where he says he has a home.

Sean was at the kitchen this week and it will be the last time we see him for a couple of months. He is due back at court on Friday and expects to get locked up for 6 weeks. He is actually looking forward to it as he manages to get off the alcohol while in prison. He is a sad case and so loveable.

Ali and Michael took the microwave that had kindly been donated. They are settling into their new home and gradually getting together the bits and pieces they need.

As always your prayers for the work in general are greatly appreciated.
