Winter has certainly started and it was very cold at the kitchen. People came for food and weren’t hanging around as they usually do.

We saw some new faces this week, all of which are on the streets. Paul has been on the streets for 4 months and is finding it very difficult. He is sleeping at Central Station.

Stuart is also new to the streets but is managing to stay at friends houses every now and again. He is dreading the next few months and the bad weather.

It was good to see Greg this week. He is in a squat in Jesmond so it is a bit further for him to come. He always remains positive and when you ask how he is the standard response is “Still alive!”

Daniel is having problems with the heating in his flat and cannot get any of his clothes dry. Unfortunately he is very small and none of the clothes we had were small enough for him.

Myra came back to the kitchen this week. We have not seen her for a few months. She is still on the streets but at least her arm has healed properly.

Doug was back this week. He had not been ill but had been spending some time with his family. We asked about the bed and he was delighted with our offer. Carl is going to sort it out with him.

We also found out that CRISIS and the People’s Kitchen are both now opening on Boxing Day. Our regulars have said that there it will not be worth it for us to go up so we will have the night off instead and continue on New Years Day when the extra resources have stopped.

As always your prayers for the work in general are greatly appreciated.

Sheila Heron
