It was a busy and noisy kitchen this week with a lot of new faces, mainly younger men and a couple of girls, who were suffering the effects of alcohol consumption.

Errol was back at the kitchen but he was in a poor way. He keeps having his bedding stolen and was freezing. We were able to give him a blanket. Jim is trying to get him sorted out with Betel but on speaking to Errol he didn’t seem too sure. He had been involved in another of their projects down the country and had been kicked out for smoking. He doesn’t mind giving up the alcohol but doesn’t think he can quit the cigarettes. I found out Errol is only 61 and I am hoping this week to speak to Age UK to find out if they have any ideas as to how or where we can find him shelter.

Duncan, our South African friend, was in good form and very appreciative of the work we do. We also had a lot more Polish men at the kitchen who speak no English.

Tom and Kiera have had their benefits stopped for 2 weeks as Tom forgot to send in a job application form. This couple really need help in organising themselves. They seem to be coping a little better with the adoption of Darren.

Sean brought a friend, Michael who is on the streets and had no food to eat for a couple of days.

This week the Simonside Arms, owned by Philippa’s aunt (she came as a visitor last week with Rebecca), brought all of the left over carvery meat and vegetables. We were able to make up takeaways for them.

As we were so few in helpers this week, I was not able to mingle with our friends as much and so the report is quite short.

As always your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Sheila Heron
