It was an extremely busy kitchen this week with a lot of new faces. Unfortunately 90% of my time was spent with Errol.

He was in a really bad way. We had taken a folding chair up for when I was having difficulty standing so I managed to get him to sit in this. He was in a lot of pain from the cold and had also been attacked again and had his glasses stolen.

He was shaking so much he couldn’t even drink from a cup and had no food. We were very concerned for his health on Sunday and after the kitchen took him in the van to where he was sleeping rough as he couldn’t walk. One of the girls from a nearby hostel came to see if he was ok and said she would keep an eye on him. We didn’t leave him until 10.30 (fortunately Carl was not at work). Richard and Wendy drove past on Monday and saw him sitting outside and Jim was going to find him later in the week to make sure he was ok, as Carl and I were going to be away.

Emma arrived at the kitchen with a cut on her elbow which we were able to clean up. She brought some half defrosted chicken nuggets “for the homeless” but we could not risk giving these away as we did not know where they came from or how they had been stored. The thought was there though and she was made to feel like she was helping.

Keith had been to see about his leg and was given some medication. They are running some tests to see what the problem is.

Nigel has not been for sometime as he has been in detox. Unfortunately he has slipped back into the alcohol and also managed to break his ankle.

We gave the Jubilee bibles out and these were well received by those who took them.

It was good to see Kevin back at the kitchen. His job in Tobago didn’t work out and he has now got a new job in Leeds. It was good to hear that he had missed visiting the kitchen. We wish him well in his new position and hope to see him when he gets the opportunity to visit the North East.

As always your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Sheila Heron
